ANGLERS WELCOME IN CEREDIGION
All the accommodation bases have to be inspected by VisitWales (formerly known as the Wales Tourist Board) or the AA, must retain currency of their inspected grading status and operate in compliance with the grading organisation's Code of Conduct.
To be recognised as operating within the Anglers Welcome scheme, accommodation bases must comply with the criteria described below:
24 HOUR ACCESS
Accommodation
providers are asked to bear in mind that some types of angling can
involve night fishing with anglers returning to the accommodation
base during the early hours. Whilst this may not be an issue for
self-catering accommodation, it is explained that this might present
a challenge for some serviced accommodation providers. It is further
explained that specialist anglers who may require early hour access
include those engaged in Sewin, sea and estuary fishing and, to a
possibly lesser degree, some coarse anglers. It is emphasised that by
no means all anglers require night-time access.
When applying for use of the 'Anglers-Welcome' Accommodation symbol, serviced accommodation providers are asked to take care to note whether or not they offer 24-hour access.
NOT 24 HOUR ACCESS
To
differentiate serviced accommodation establishments that can
facilitate 24-hour access - both to the establishment itself and to
guests' bedrooms - from those that would prefer not to offer
early-hours access, a slightly different symbol is used (see image above).
MANDATORY requirements for all accommodation:
- Provide tea/coffee-making facilities;
- Provide drying facilities for wet clothes and boots;
- Provide adequate storage space for fishing tackle;
- Provide access to refrigerator/freezer facilities dedicated to the purpose of storing bait and fish caught (See note 1);
- Ensure that an appropriate First Aid kit is available on the premises;
- Ensure contact and location details for the nearest doctor, dentist and hospital are clearly displayed on the premises;
- The accommodation base should clearly describe its accessibility level via an Accessibility Statement (See note 2);
- Details of the nearest angling tackle shop; permit and licence sales points, a current copy of the local Tide Tables together with contact details for qualified Angling Guides within the vicinity - if available -should be available on the premises (See note 3).
It is also recommended that:
- Information describing angling within the area via books and leaflets should be available on the premises
- Access should be provided to a hosepipe for washing waders and equipment, especially if catering for sea anglers.
Additional mandatory requirements for Serviced Accommodation:
- Guests should be offered tea or coffee on arrival;
- If required by the customer and ordered in advance, be prepared to provide packed meals which can be eaten on or off the premises (e.g. after late-night return from angling). The packed meal can be charged for. (See note 4)
Notes:
1. It is necessary to provide fridge/freezer facilities that are dedicated to the purpose.
2. Advice on the preparation of an Accessibility Statement is available from VisitWales e.g. from its website at
3. Ceredigion's Tourism Section, in collaboration with angling associations, fisheries etc. within the Ceredigion area, produces a brochure on an annual basis containing most of the relevant information. Ceredigion Tide Tables are available at all Ceredigion Tourist Information Centres and direct from the Ceredigion Tourism Service.
4. Night-time anglers returning to the accommodation base in the early hours might appreciate being able to sit down to a packed meal e.g. a salad or sandwiches placed in a refrigerator to await their return.
