CARDIGAN
- CEREDIGION
|
Cardigan
is the historic key gateway into Ceredigion from Pembrokeshire. In
1176 Rhys ap Gruffydd, one of the last native princes, held the first
recorded Eisteddfod - the uniquely Welsh competitive arts festival -
at his castle here. A local heritage centre tells the tale of
Cardigan's proud history and the Theatr Mwldan Arts Centre offers a
year-round programme of quality stage and film productions, art and
craft exhibitions.
To
the south lie the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the Preseli
Hills, where Stonehenge Bluestones were quarried. The Cardigan Bay
coast is bejewelled with spectacular National Trust lands,
award-winning beaches and a resident population of dolphins, porpoise
and seals.
