Wales Cycle Breaks

RHAYADER - MID WALES

This is a your chance to meander along the edges of the reservoirs of the Elan Valley and along the banks of the rivers Wye and Severn. Shelley lived in the area with his wife in 1812 and loved the landscape, which was changed dramatically by the reservoir builders at the turn of the last century. Explore pretty towns - Llangurig in the foothills of the Plynlimon mountains and Rhayader itself whose Welsh name Rhaeadr Gwy means 'waterfall on the Wye'.

You can take a day to explore the country lanes east of Rhayader where you’ll pass through the villages of St Harmon, Pant-Y-Dwr and Bwlch Y Sarnau to discover the remains of The Abbey in the Long Valley, with its 73 metre nave lying in a remote, wooded valley.
